UNP / U-Channel Price 2026: What Drives the Cost & How to Get a Quote

UNP (U-channel, “kanal U”) is used for beams, frames, machine bases, and structures — and the first question buyers ask is usually: what does UNP cost today? Because UNP is sold by the kg / per length and prices track the market, the exact figure moves. This article explains what determines the UNP price so you can compare quotes accurately.

What determines the UNP price?

  1. Size & weight. UNP is sold by the kg, so a larger profile (e.g. UNP 100 vs UNP 65) is heavier and costs more per length. See the UNP weight table for the kg/m of each size.
  2. Hot-rolled vs folded. Hot-rolled profiles are generally stronger and differ in price from folded-plate UNP.
  3. Grade / standard. SS400 / SNI is the common grade; project-specific grades usually cost more.
  4. Mill price & market swings. Steel billet/coil prices move with global prices and the exchange rate — the main reason prices change.
  5. Volume & delivery. Buying per tonne / per project is cheaper per kg; freight adds to the total.

Watch out: under-spec (“banci”) UNP

The market has UNP with dimensions or thickness below nominal. It looks cheap, but each length weighs less — so you actually pay more per kg and the structural capacity drops. Always compare the price per kg and confirm the actual size and thickness.

How to get the best UNP price

  • Ask for a written quote with clear size, thickness, and grade.
  • Compare per kg, not just per length.
  • Check stock — ready stock is faster and often cheaper.
